World AIDS Day takes place each year on December 1st. It is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show support for people living with HIV, and commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. In recognition of World AIDS Day, the O'Neill Institute organizes events open to members of the Georgetown University community and interested members of public.
O'Neill Institute Associate Sean Bland gave a presentation on HIV criminalization, the opioid crisis, and their interrelationship in the United States. The presentation included a discussion of HIV criminal laws and their connection to drug and syringe use, before turning to the opioid crisis and public health efforts in response to the crisis.
