Emergency Fellowship Fund<\/b> Will You Make a Gift Today to Support a Graduating Student?<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

In response to the extremely difficult job market that graduating law students currently face, we have launched an emergency fundraising campaign to hire an additional Georgetown Law graduate as a fellow. Donations received between now and July 30 will go towards this fund. <\/b>You can help by making an online gift today at <\/b>this link<\/b><\/a>. Your gift can cover research costs, support student mentoring, or staff time dedicated to advocating for privacy protections. Donations are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law. You can donate to the Center here.<\/a><\/p>\n

Cy-pr\u00e8s awards\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

As a non profit research and advocacy organization with national impact, the Center on Privacy & Technology is eligible to be nominated for <\/span>cy pres<\/span><\/i> awards. Cy-pr\u00e8s support the Privacy Center\u2019s mission to protect the privacy rights of all people<\/span><\/p>\n

Cy-pr\u00e8s awards are class action litigation settlement funds which, for a variety of reasons, cannot be distributed to the class members or intended beneficiaries of the settlement. Under the cy-pr\u00e8s doctrine, courts can distribute these residual funds<\/span> to charitable organizations whose work advances interests of the class and people similarly situated. Lawyers representing the plaintiffs in each case often nominate nonprofit organizations to receive cy-pr\u00e8s awards.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Center on Privacy & Technology welcomes cy-pr\u00e8s award nominations in cases seeking to vindicate privacy rights, especially for historically marginalized individuals and communities. The Center has been approved as a cy-pr\u00e8s recipient in past class action litigation. Most recently, the Center received a cy-pr\u00e8s award as part of the Google Street View<\/a><\/span>\u00a0settlement.<\/span><\/p>\n
