As a non profit research and advocacy organization with national impact, the Center on Privacy & Technology is eligible to be nominated for <\/span>cy pres<\/span><\/i> awards. Cy-pr\u00e8s support the Privacy Center\u2019s mission to protect the privacy rights of all people<\/span><\/p>\n Cy-pr\u00e8s awards are class action litigation settlement funds which, for a variety of reasons, cannot be distributed to the class members or intended beneficiaries of the settlement. Under the cy-pr\u00e8s doctrine, courts can distribute these residual funds<\/span> to charitable organizations whose work advances interests of the class and people similarly situated. Lawyers representing the plaintiffs in each case often nominate nonprofit organizations to receive cy-pr\u00e8s awards.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The Center on Privacy & Technology welcomes cy-pr\u00e8s award nominations in cases seeking to vindicate privacy rights, especially for historically marginalized individuals and communities. The Center has been approved as a cy-pr\u00e8s recipient in past class action litigation.
