It typically takes the NCBE at least 25 business days to review a request for accommodations. This letter will be shared with the student via Box. The NCBE has indicated that students may alternatively provide a letter that addresses the information requested in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbex.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2023-02\/Certification-of-Accommodations-History.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Certification of Accommodations History Form<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Personal Narrative<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Use the Optional Personal Narrative as an opportunity to describe how your disability\/disabilities impact your experience taking the MPRE and how each accommodation you are requesting removes a barrier for equitable access.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you are requesting to test in a smaller <\/span><b>setting<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, describe the functional limitations of your documented disabilities and explain why a different setting will reasonably accommodate your access needs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you are requesting <\/span><b>additional time<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, describe your experience taking timed assessments and explain how\/why additional time will address documented functional limitations and allow you to equitably access the exam.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you are requesting <\/span><b>access to personal items<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, describe the functional limitations of your documented disabilities and explain why you must access any assistive technologies, medical supplies, etc. to equitably access the exam.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Submit an Appeal or Request Reconsideration<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A student who disagrees with a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbex.org\/exams\/mpre\/test-accommodations\/accommodation-decisions\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">test accommodation decision<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> may either submit an appeal or request reconsideration by logging in to their <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/testaccommodations.ncbex.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">NCBE Account<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Do not register for a test appointment until after you receive a decision on the appeal or request for reconsideration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Typically, the recommendation is that students intending to request accommodations for the Bar Exam do not take the MPRE without accommodations. Previous success on standardized exams without accommodations may be cited as a reason for denying future accommodation requests.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h2><b>Bar Exam<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">T<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">he first step to apply for accommodations is to consult the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanbar.org\/groups\/diversity\/disabilityrights\/resources\/biad\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ABA Directory: Bar Information for Applicants with Disabilities<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for information regarding how to request accommodations in each state.
