In addition to Georgetown’s <\/span>Guaranteed Summer Funding<\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u2013 which all students are strongly encouraged to apply for, if eligible \u2013 Georgetown also administers several donor-funded summer fellowships, which provide supplemental or higher-level funding for students doing various types of public interest or otherwise qualifying work. With the exception of the Squire Patton Boggs Foundation Sustained Impact Fellowships, all fellowships require students to have already secured a qualifying summer internship before applying.<\/span><\/p>\n

Summer 2026 fellowships are now open \u2013 you can find more information and the links to apply below. Students who are selected for a fellowship can only accept\/receive one Georgetown-administered summer fellowship per summer. Incoming transfer students are not eligible.<\/span><\/p>\n

Squire Patton Boggs Foundation Public Policy Fellowship<\/b><\/h2>\n

The Squire Patton Boggs Foundation Public Policy Summer Fellowship Program will award a $5,500 fellowship to one Georgetown Law JD student (1L, 1E\/J, 2E\/J, 2L, or 3E\/J) with a summer public policy internship at a nonprofit or government organization in the U.S or abroad. The $5,500 fellowship award may be combined with Georgetown Law\u2019s Public Service Summer Grant at the $3,250 level (i.e., if selected, the fellow would receive the 1L\/1E\/2E Georgetown grant amount of $3,250, regardless of class year).<\/span><\/p>\n

Denny Center for Democratic Capitalism Summer Fellowship<\/b><\/h2>\n

The Denny Center for Democratic Capitalism Summer Fellowship Program will provide two $3,000 awards to Georgetown Law JD students (1L, 1E\/J, 2E\/J, 2L, 3E\/J) working an unpaid summer internship in the U.S. The Fellowship is provided by the Denny Center for Democratic Capitalism, whose mission is to reconcile the benefits of free market capitalism with the values and expectations of a democratic society. The Denny Center Fellowship is a supplement to Georgetown’s Public Service Summer Grant.<\/p>\n

John Paul Stevens Public Interest Fellowship Sponsored by Arnold & Porter<\/h2>\n

The John Paul Stevens Public Interest Fellowship program sponsored by Arnold & Porter will award three $2,500 fellowships to Georgetown Law 1L, 1E\/J, or 2E\/J students working an unpaid summer internship at a not-for-profit organization or government entity in the U.S.\u00a0 The Fellowship Program reflects Justice Stevens\u2019 deep belief that a dynamic and effective justice system depends on a cadre of trained and committed lawyers committed to public interest work. The fellowship is a supplement to Georgetown’s Public Service Summer Grant.<\/p>\n

Professor Anne Fleming Legal Services Summer Fellowship<\/b><\/h2>\n

The Professor Anne Fleming Legal Services Summer Fellowship Program will provide two $2,500 awards to Georgetown Law J.D. students (1L, 1E\/J, 2E\/J, 2L, 3E\/J) working an unpaid internship at a not-for-profit organization or government entity in the U.S.\u00a0 The Fellowship is provided in memory of Georgetown Law Professor Anne Fleming, a groundbreaking legal scholar, whose research areas included contract law, commercial law, consumer finance, and the relationship between law and poverty, and who began her career as a legal services attorney. The Fleming Fellowship is a supplement to Georgetown\u2019s Public Service Summer Grant.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Marilyn Tucker International Summer Fellowship will provide two $3,000 awards to Georgetown Law JD students (1L, 1E\/J, 2E\/J, 2L, 3E\/J) who are interning abroad over the summer. Students engaging in both public and private sector activity are eligible. Fellowship funds may be combined with Georgetown\u2019s Public Service Summer Grant.<\/span><\/p>\n

Georgetown Gideon Summer Fellowship\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n

The Georgetown Gideon Summer Fellowship Program will provide up to five $2,500 fellowship awards to Georgetown Law JD students (1L, 1E\/J, 2E\/J, 2L, 3E\/J) working a summer internship at a U.S. public defender office. The Georgetown Gideon Summer Fellowship is offered thanks to the generous donation of Lynn Morehouse\/the Morehouse Family, given in support of Georgetown students who intend to devote their careers to work in a U.S. public defender office. The fellowship is a supplement to Georgetown\u2019s Public Service Summer Grant.<\/span><\/p>\n

Primes Public Service Summer Fellowship<\/h2>\n

The Primes Public Service Summer Fellowship Program will provide two $2,000 awards to Georgetown Law JD students (1L, 1E\/J, 2E\/J, 2L, 3E\/J)<\/span> working an unpaid internship with the NAACP or a US-based local, state, or federal government office (excluding judicial internships) and who have demonstrated a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts at Georgetown Law or elsewhere. The Primes Fellowship is a supplement to Georgetown\u2019s Public Service Summer Grant.<\/span><\/p>\n

Squire Patton Boggs Foundation Sustained Impact Fellowships<\/b><\/h2>\n

The Squire Patton Boggs Foundation has several Sustained Impact Fellowship Programs. If selected, students will be awarded a fellowship of $5,500 from the Foundation and placed with a participating host organization. This fellowship is available to 1L, 1E\/J, 2E\/J, 2L, and 3E\/J students. The $5,500 fellowship award may be combined with Georgetown Law\u2019s Public Service Summer Grant at the $3,250 level (i.e., if selected, the fellow would receive the 1L\/1E\/2E Georgetown grant amount of $3,250, regardless of class year).<\/span><\/p>\n

Human Rights: <\/strong>The Squire Patton Boggs Foundation provides two human rights fellowships – <\/span>the Joe Brand Human Rights Fellowship with <\/span>Human Rights First<\/a><\/strong>, and a Sustained Impact Fellowship with <\/span>Human Rights Watch<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 The deadline for this fellowship for Summer 2026 has passed.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Advancing Justice:<\/strong> The Squire Patton Boggs Foundation provides two “Advancing Justice” Sustained Impact Fellowships – one with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law <\/a><\/strong><\/span>in Washington, DC (working on voting rights), and one with Lone Star Justice Alliance<\/a><\/strong> in Dallas and Austin, TX (working on juvenile justice issues in low-income communities). The deadline for this fellowship for Summer 2026 has passed.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Veterans Justice:<\/strong> The Squire Patton Boggs Foundation provides a veterans justice fellowship focusing on advocacy to support veterans and their families. The host organization is Swords to Plowshares <\/a><\/strong><\/span>in\u00a0 San Francisco, CA.\u00a0 The deadline for this fellowship for Summer 2026 has passed.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Rural Justice:<\/strong> The Squire Patton Boggs Foundation provides a rural justice fellowship focusing on community economic development for small businesses and entrepreneurs in rural communities. The host organization is Legal Aid of Southeast and Central Ohio<\/a><\/strong>. The deadline for this fellowship for Summer 2026 has passed.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Note: For the Sustained Impact Fellowship Program, students are applying to be Georgetown\u2019s nominee<\/strong> for a fellowship.
