In 2026, OPICS is celebrating our office’s 30-year legacy. We will also be celebrating the upcoming retirement of our beloved colleague and OPICS co-founder, Lauren Dubin, and the impact she has had on the lives of so many in our public interest community.<\/p>\n
The Lauren Dubin Alumni Ambassador Program will create opportunities to foster connections within the Georgetown Law public interest student and alumni community. If you would like to make a gift to OPICS or the Lauren Dubin Alumni Ambassador Program separate from OPICS30 registration, you can do so here<\/a>. Alumni are also invited to volunteer<\/a> to be members of the inaugural cohort of Alumni Ambassadors.<\/p>\n As part of our celebration, we invite you to share the experiences<\/a> that have shaped you, the lessons you’ve learned, and the purpose that continues to guide your work. Our goal is to create a dynamic collection of hundreds of “Public Interest Proud” stories that will inspire future generations of Georgetown Law students.<\/p>\n —————————————————————————————————————————<\/p>\n In addition to coordinating many of the Law Center’s public interest programs, OPICS is the primary career office for students interested in exploring public interest and government legal opportunities. The office also administers the Law Center’s extensive pro bono program, which encourages and facilitates pro bono legal service by students and other members of the Law Center community.<\/p>\n OPICS’ professional career advisors meet with hundreds of students and alumni each year. The advisors assist with overall public interest career planning, provide information on summer and academic year opportunities and post-graduate employment, review resumes and cover letters, conduct mock interviews, and assist with post-graduate fellowship and government honor applications. The advisors also conduct career-related educational programming includes a variety of workshops, information sessions and alumni and employer panels.<\/p>\n The office’s recruiting initiatives include major job fairs each year such as the Public Sector Application Program<\/a>\u00a0and the Public Sector Recruiting Program<\/a>, conducted jointly with George Washington University Law School. In addition, we coordinate ongoing public sector resume collections and administer an extensive public sector jobs database.<\/p>\n OPICS also coordinates the Law Center’s Pro Bono Program and Pledge<\/a>, which challenges each student to perform 50 hours of law-related pro bono service before they graduate. Those who complete the Pledge receive a certificate signed by the Dean and special recognition at graduation. During an average academic year, students signed up for the Pledge collectively performed more than 30,000 hours of pro bono service at organizations such as Legal Aid DC, Legal Counsel for the Elderly, and the DC Employment Justice Center.<\/p>\n Please feel free to Make an Appointment<\/a> to meet with an OPICS advisor. She joined OPICS in 2022. Prior to joining Georgetown Law, she worked in undergraduate admissions at several universities. She\u2019s spent her entire career in higher education and wouldn\u2019t have it any other way.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Ask me about: <\/b>Job postings, Symplicity, Fall and Spring Public Sector Recruiting Programs (PSRP)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In my free time, I enjoy: <\/b>Watching reality TV with my partner and our dog, taking ballet classes, going to (and planning trips to) Disney World, and being cozy with a good book or a craft project.<\/span><\/p>\n Tamara (she \/ her \/ hers) began her legal career at an Am Law 200 firm and then worked in child welfare and juvenile justice positions on the state level.\u00a0 After counseling public sector-focused law students for a decade, she went on to lead the Office of Student Affairs at another area law school.\u00a0 Tamara graduated from Harvard University and earned her J.D. at Boston College Law School.\u00a0 She holds a M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration from George Washington University\u2019s Graduate School of Education and Human Development.<\/span><\/p>\n Ask me about:<\/b> General career planning, dual planning (between the public and private sectors), the post-graduate search, and evening student advising.<\/span><\/p>\n In my free time, I enjoy:<\/b> Reading fiction, photography, watching reality TV, and volunteering.<\/span><\/p>\n Lauren (she \/ her \/ hers) has spent most of her career working at Georgetown Law; she was one of the original 3 members of the Office of Public Interest and Community Service team and before joining OPICS, she served as Georgetown\u2019s first public interest advisor in the Office of Career Services.<\/span><\/p>\n Prior to joining Georgetown, Lauren worked as a career counselor at a small women\u2019s college in DC and for the U.S. Department of Labor. On the \u201cside,\u201d she is a facilitator for the Georgetown Law, \u201cLawyers in Balance\u201d Mindfulness and the Law Program and for many years served as a PSJD advisory group member and as the Chair of the NALP Public Service Section. She holds a M.Ed in Counseling and Career Development.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Ask Me About:<\/b> Public Defender career paths and PD offices, general nonprofit and government searches, dual planning (between the private and public sector), self-assessment, including values, skills and interests awareness, interview preparation and decision making. She enjoys discussing the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and CliftonStrengths with students along with\u00a0 encouraging students to weave mindfulness practices into their career discovery process.<\/span><\/p>\n More About Me:<\/b> Lauren is an advocate and volunteer for families at risk for breast and ovarian cancer and has a soft spot for discussing and singing favorite music genres with students. Hers include 60\u2019s and 70\u2019s soft or classic rock and Broadway musicals.<\/span><\/p>\n Kim (she \/ her \/ hers) has worked in the OPICS office since its founding in 1996. Prior to Georgetown, Kim worked in the federal government as a contracting officer and spent 5 years in the U.S. Marine Corps.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Ask me about: <\/b>Summer funding, volunteer agreements, general OPICS inquiries.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In my free time, I enjoy:<\/b> Spending time with my grandchildren and children; going to the beach and summer vacations with my sister. I also enjoy listening to music, crossword puzzles and adult coloring books.<\/span><\/p>\n Jen (she \/ her \/ hers) joined OPICS in 2022 after practicing as a legal services attorney at Legal Aid DC for more than twelve years and as an associate at a large law firm for several years before that. Jen started her time with Legal Aid as an Equal Justice Works\/AmeriCorps Fellow and eventually became a supervising attorney of Legal Aid\u2019s Consumer Law Unit, representing low-income District residents in foreclosure prevention and debt collection defense matters while engaging in related systemic and policy advocacy. She was named “Consumer Advocate of the Year” by the National Association of Consumer Advocates in 2022. In her personal capacity, Jen serves on the Asian Pacific American Bar Association (APABA-DC) Nominations Committee. She also serves as a facilitator for Georgetown Law\u2019s \u201cLawyers in Balance\u201d Mindfulness and the Law program.<\/span><\/p>\n Ask me about: <\/b>General career planning, direct civil legal services, dual planning (between the private and public sectors), interview preparation and decision making, public interest summer funding, and consumer protection law.<\/span><\/p>\n In my free time, I enjoy:<\/b> music (singing, playing the violin, and experimenting with other instruments), exploring the outdoors with my partner and kids, snuggling with my dog, traveling (including planning and packing), paper crafts, and gardening.<\/span><\/p>\n Elizabeth (she \/ her \/ hers) joined OPICS in 2023 after decades advocating on behalf of domestic violence survivors. She is excited to return to Georgetown Law, where she was a Teaching Fellow in the Domestic Violence Clinic. Most recently, she worked for the Domestic Violence Legal Empowerment and Appeals Project, where she litigated appellate cases,\u00a0developed resources and trainings, and co-authored a book\u00a0on representing domestic violence survivors.\u00a0\u00a0Elizabeth graduated from Harvard Law School and has also worked at a large DC law firm and a reproductive justice organization.<\/p>\n Ask me about:<\/strong>\u00a0General career planning, domestic violence law, clinical teaching, government work, and appellate litigation.<\/p>\n In my free time, I enjoy:<\/strong> reading from a wide variety of genres (except YA, which is way too stressful since I\u2019m parenting a teen), eating takeout and watching movies during family movie night, traveling, and volunteering as an English language instructor to immigrants.<\/p>\n Morgan (she \/ her \/ hers) graduated from Georgetown Law in 2007 and joined OPICS in 2012 after a career as a legal services attorney in D.C.\u00a0While in law school\u00a0she was a\u00a0Public Interest Law Scholar<\/span>(This link opens in a new tab)<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0(now “Blume”), participated in the Domestic Violence Clinic, and co-created a course with her classmates on Conscientious Lawyering.\u00a0Morgan has long been dedicated to supporting the public interest careers of students and alumni and she is a certified\u00a0Leadership Coach through\u00a0Georgetown’s Institute for Transformational Leadership. Rooted in Morgan’s\u00a0commitments\u00a0to equity\u00a0and inclusion, she serves as a member of Georgetown Law’s Inclusion Council and\u00a0presented at numerous National Association of Legal Professionals\u00a0(NALP)\u00a0conferences on topics including: Supporting Transgender and Non-Binary Students and Attorneys, Trauma-Informed Legal Education, and Identity Covering in the Legal Profession.<\/p>\n Ask me about:<\/b> General career planning, legal services, immigration law, postgraduate fellowships, navigating identity in the workplace, disability justice and access, dual planning (between the public and private sectors), summer and postgraduate funding opportunities.<\/span><\/p>\n In my free time, I enjoy:<\/b> Reading dystopian science-fiction, making art with my twins and partner, cultivating antiracism and accountability, and experimenting with the bounty from farmers\u2019 markets.<\/span><\/p>\n Jennie (she \/ her \/ hers) graduated from Georgetown Law in 2014 and joined OPICS in 2020. After law school, Jennie represented low-income tenants in eviction defense and housing conditions cases. Prior to joining OPICS, Jennie trained and mentored pro bono attorneys working on housing cases in DC. She co-chaired a DC based mentoring program for new public interest attorneys and generally loves mentoring. She is a facilitator for Georgetown Law\u2019s \u201cLawyers in Balance\u201d Mindfulness and the Law Program.<\/p>\n Ask me about:<\/strong> General career planning, postgraduate fellowships & funding opportunities, dual planning (between the private and public sector), housing law, and direct civil legal services.<\/p>\n In my free time, I enjoy:<\/strong> Adventuring with my family, walking my dog, baking healthy(ish) desserts, and doing yoga.<\/p>\n Hamida (she\/her\/hers) joined OPICS in 2025 after spending several years as an immigration attorney for children at a national non-profit. In addition to directly representing clients, she trained and mentored lawyers from all walks of life to provide trauma-informed, pro bono legal services. Hamida previously held federal judicial clerkships in Virginia and Maryland, and spent a few years as an investigations and white collar defense attorney at an Am Law 50 firm, where pro bono service on behalf of women and girls, and survivors of domestic violence, was also integral to her practice. Hamida graduated from Harvard University and earned her J.D. from Stanford Law School.<\/p>\n Ask me about:<\/strong> Career strategy and job transitions, making connections with alumni to enhance your professional network, dual planning (between the public and private sectors), interview and resume preparation, incorporating pro bono into your practice, clerkships, and immigration law.<\/p>\n In my free time, I enjoy:<\/strong> reading fiction novels in the sun, spending time with family and friends, volunteering at immigration clinics, Zumba, and yoga.<\/p>\n Julia (she \/ her \/ hers) joined OPICS in 2021 after a decade of public interest lawyering in Washington, D.C. After graduating from American University Washington College of Law in 2011, Julia clerked at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. She then worked as a Staff Attorney litigating family law cases for low-income residents in D.C. Most recently, Julia has managed a legal Email Hotline and created legal resources for survivors of domestic violence at a national non-profit.<\/span><\/p>\n Ask me about:<\/b> General career planning, legal services, litigation, domestic violence and family law, and clerkships.<\/span><\/p>\n In my free time, I enjoy:<\/b> Checking out local playgrounds with my kids, listening to podcasts, watching reality tv, and doing yoga and meditating.<\/span><\/p>\n Ruby (she \/ her \/ hers) started her professional career when she joined Georgetown Law after graduating from Northwestern University in 2007 (Go Wildcats!). Ruby worked in the Office of Career Strategy (OCS) for four years and moved to OPICS in 2011 while she was an evening student in Georgetown\u2019s McCourt School of Public Policy.
