The Lab studies questions of statutory and constitutional interpretation with various empirical methods, including case coding and content analysis, computational methods, and surveys and experiments.
- Statutory interpretation: We are “all textualists now”, but what is textualism? We explore this question through empirical examination of the Supreme Court’s opinions, as well as theoretical work. For more information, browse our empirical examination work here.
- Constitutional interpretation: Is originalism orthodoxy? Or has the Court employed different theories of constitutional interpretation over time? We examine such questions with a large database of constitutional opinions, briefs, oral argument transcripts, and other official papers.
