Presiding Judge of Mexico's Highest Electoral Court Speaks at CAROLA Breakfast

September 25th, 2012

Presiding Judge Luna Ramos of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary of Mexico spoke on "Judicial Review of the Mexican Presidential Election" at a CAROLA breakfast on September 25.  The Tribunal recently entered the media limelight after declaring Enrique Peña Nieto the winner of Mexico’s July 1st presidential elections.   The court reviewed an appeal by Peña Nieto’s leftist opponent, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, alleging widespread voter fraud, including vote-buying and bribery.

Judge Luna discussed the role of the Tribunal in deciding electoral disputes.  At the conclusion of his talk, he fielded spirited questions from an audience of professors and students.
