Class of 2025

Bijal Mehta graduated from Northwestern University with a B.S. in Social Policy and a minor in Computer Science. As an undergraduate, Bijal’s passion for tech policy and ethics grew through her involvement in Northwestern’s Tech, Race, Ethics, and Equity in Education Lab (TREE Lab), where she worked with local high school students to analyze the intersection of technology, race, and power in their communities. Outside of college, Bijal also had the opportunity to intern with several tech-for-good and tech policy organizations, including DataKind UK, Edovo, and the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society. Additionally, after organizations moved online during the pandemic, Bijal was able to connect with and volunteer virtually for responsible tech community groups including All Tech is Human and Women in AI Ethics.

These experiences inspired her to create the Responsible AI Student Organization (RAISO) and provide an open learning community for students to discuss how AI and other emerging technologies are impacting society. From hosting educational workshops to creating a weekly newsletter, Bijal worked to expand programming at Northwestern and within the broader undergraduate community to inspire more students to get involved with tech policy conversations.

After graduating from Northwestern in 2021, Bijal moved to the UK to work on the Global AI Index at Tortoise Media, which provided a comprehensive dataset and ranking of AI policy and development in 62 countries. Through this work, Bijal gained exposure to the complex regulatory landscape emerging globally on AI and privacy, and hopes to learn more about these issues during her time as a Tech Law Scholar at Georgetown Law.
