Britney FirminClass of 2027

Britney Firmin graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 2020, with a B.A in Political Science and Africana Studies. She completed an honors thesis focused on the economic, carceral, and policy implications of the opioid epidemic in rural Pennsylvania: The Opioid Epidemic in Rural America: How Current Punitive Policies Generate a Renewed War on Drugs in the Countryside. Post-grad, she has worked in the federal district court system coordinating jury trials, and most currently works as Data Analytics Lead at Cambridge Associates. Both experiences have fueled her interest in exploring the intersections between criminal justice, data privacy regulation, and surveillance in the age of AI advancement.

Born and raised in Mattapan (a Boston neighborhood) in Massachusetts, Britney is very prideful about her Haitian and Jamaican heritage. She is constantly inspired by her family’s immigration to the United States, which she learns through lenses such as her mother’s life stories and her grandmother’s infamous Haitian recipes. In her own work and career, she hopes to honor her family’s legacy by using her own voice to impart change. Long-term, she intends to advocate for marginalized communities most vulnerable to carceral surveillance, and center her work in the public sector to help shape technology policy regulations. In her free time, Britney loves spending time with friends and family, learning to cook Haitian and Jamaican cuisine, and boxing.
