Class of 2025

Danielle Recanati is a dual J.D. and master’s of science in foreign service candidate, and is particularly interested in pursuing a career at the intersection of technology, human rights, and civil liberties. While completing her first year of graduate school, Danielle worked for PeaceTech Lab and the Global Network Initiative (GNI), where she focused on issues related to human rights, freedom of expression, and a wide variety of other internet governance challenges. At GNI, she developed materials to help civil society organizations and digital rights activists engage directly with tech companies on human rights issues and also more specifically, on government-mandated network disruptions.

Danielle graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with degrees in Islamic studies and international affairs. Following graduation Danielle spent a year living in Egypt, where she worked as a Presidential Associate at the American University in Cairo and focused on honing her Arabic language skills. After moving back to the U.S., Danielle spent several years at a global health communications and advocacy consulting firm, where she helped philanthropic organizations pursue cross-sector partnerships to advance health and development innovation. Several of her accounts also focused on improving vaccine access and equity globally. This work included contending with the challenges posed by widespread vaccine misinformation online, sparking her interest in social media platforms’ content moderation efforts and the debates surrounding these approaches.
