Class of 2024

Hello! My name is Marcus Liou. I am a rising third-year student at Georgetown Law and an editor of the Georgetown Law Technology Review. Before law school, I was a senior financial analyst at Microsoft. During the past academic year, I was a judicial intern for the Hon. Paul L. Friedman of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and a legal intern at the Federal Trade Commission’s Technology Enforcement Division. At the District Court, I prepared draft memoranda decisions in response to compassionate release, section 2255, and civil motions. I developed an understanding for how difficult it is for criminal defendants to navigate a complex system built for lawyers. At the F.T.C., I leveraged my technology and regulatory experience to write a memo on whether the commission should apply a novel antitrust and competition law in an investigation of a technology company. This experience along with my prior legal internship at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau are what sparked my interest in helping consumers and small businesses through regulatory law. This upcoming summer I will be a summer associate at Paul, Weiss in New York. After law school, I plan to work in Big Law and clerk. I plan to leverage these experiences to build a future public service career. Feel free to contact me at mwl65@georgetown.edu if you ever want to chat.
