Class of 2024

Vanessa (Van) is a Technology Law and Policy Scholar and Opportunity Scholar and is involved with the Campus Ambassadors program, the Office of Student Life, as well as the Asian Pacific American Law Student Association at Georgetown Law. She intends on pursuing a career in technology law and is continually fascinated by the unanswered legal questions each technological advancement poses. Since January of 2022, Van has been interning at the Law Office of Chun T. Wright, a boutique law firm based in D.C., primarily conducting legal research related to AR/VR device litigation and policy analysis. During her 1L summer, Van also worked as a legal intern at Immuta, a startup working on creating a data access platform. Prior to law school, Van worked in the El Paso Probate Court under Judge Patricia Chew and Associate Judge Joseph Strelitz. During the pandemic as the courts moved online, she also worked as a manager at a local chocolate shop.

Van was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. She attended the University of California, Berkeley where she majored in English and Rhetoric and graduated in 2019 with a Distinction in General Scholarship. At Berkeley, Van worked with the department of University Development and Alumni Relations in its efforts to build a sense of community on campus, and she spent a summer teaching English in Romania. At Berkeley, she was introduced to the tech world initially exposed to the tech world by becoming the first non-STEM major director of Cal Hacks, which organizes the world’s largest collegiate hackathon.

In her spare time, Van loves watching movies and television, taking her dog to the dog park, and exploring the DC/Maryland/Virginia food scene. She also loves to travel and is always planning her next trip on a mobile notes app.
