On March 23, the GIAS organized its first Latin American Arbitration Day, and CAROLA partnered with the Society to support the event. LATAM Arbitration Day convened two panels: Foreign Investment, New Tendencies in International Arbitration and Sustainable Development, and Arbitration involving State-Owned Entities.
CAROLA’s Director, Prof. Álvaro Santos, spoke at the first panel along with Georgetown Law’s Prof. Katrin Kuhlmann and Prof. Jose Antonio Rivas. This panel focused on how foreign investment evolved in Latin America; how countries in the region can attract investment while promoting sustainable development; the definition of sustainable development; and current trends in treaty drafting. CAROLA’s Fellow, Daniela-Olivia Ghicajanu, moderated the panel engaging the panelists with the participating students.
