Brief Bio

Adam Hofri-Winogradow specializes in inter-generational wealth transfer and the bodies of law regulating it: trusts and estates, fiduciary law, “elder law”, pensions, insurance, and relevant issues of tax and family law. He is the first Israeli academic to specialize in trusts law.

Adam is also a legal historian. One of his research projects, recipient of what was until 2012 the largest-ever grant the Israel Science Foundation has given a legal scholar, addressed the uses made of private trusts in Israel and, earlier, Palestine. Other works address Eighteenth Century English law, Adam Smith and the Scottish Enlightenment. Yet other works address the current rise, in Israel, of non-state halachic adjudication in private law matters.

Since 2008, Adam is a member of STEP – the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners. He received that organization’s Diploma in International Trust Management in 2010.

During Fall 2013, Adam was a Visiting Professor at Georgetown Law Center, as well as at the Center for Transnational Legal Studies in London, UK.

Adam is the founding moderator of the Jerusalem Legal History Workshop, a leading Israeli forum for research in legal history.

Adam makes occasional media appearances, such as his December 2008 interview for OTV, an Egyptian TV channel. On December 25, 2009, the Jerusalem Post printed an in-depth interview with Adam, entitled “The Pluralist”. A more recent interview with Adam is available online.
