Brief Bio

Heike Krieger holds the chair of Public Law and International Law at Freie Universität Berlin since 2006. Prior to her appointment in Berlin she taught at the Universities of Göttingen, Munich and Nottingham. In 2005 she was awarded the Helmuth-James-von-Moltke-Price for her work on the armed forces in constitutional states. She is member of the Research Council of the United Nations’ Association of Germany and acts as Vice-President of the German Society for Military Law and Humanitarian Law. Apart from her academic activities she works as a judge at the Constitutional Court of the State of Berlin. Her advice has been sought by the German Parliament and Federal Ministries in the context of various lawmaking projects.

Current research activities include a project funded by the German Research Foundation on the enforcement of international humanitarian law in areas of limited statehood and a project on the implementation of international law in federal states.
