Brief Bio
Dr Jonathan Gingerich is a Lecturer in Philosophy of Law. He joined King’s in 2019 having previously been a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr Gingerich completed his PhD in Philosophy at the University of California, Los Angeles, his JD at Harvard Law School, and his BA at Georgetown University.
Dr Gingerich’s research expertise includes legal and political philosophy, ethics, and aesthetics, with additional research interests in feminist theory, 19th and 20th Century Continental philosophy, and applied ethics. One of his current projects is about spontaneous freedom—the freedom of unscripted activity that “free spirits” enjoy—and the political and legal significance of this sort of freedom. He has also developed an interest in the relationship between culture, equality, and politics. Aside from his philosophical work, Dr Gingerich has published on legal education and the legal profession in India.
