Brief Bio

Judith Lichtenberg is professor of philosophy at Georgetown University. She previously taught at the University of Maryland at College Park, where she held appointments in the philosophy department and at the university’s Institute for Philosophy and Public Policy. Her writing and teaching are in the fields of ethics and political philosophy, with special interests in poverty and inequality; criminal justice; race and ethnicity; higher education; and moral psychology. Her most recent book is Distant Strangers: Ethics, Psychology, and Global Poverty (Cambridge, 2014). She is on the advisory board of Georgetown’s new Prisons and Justice Initiative, and teaches at Jessup prison in Maryland.
