General Policies

Food and Drink

Georgetown Law Library patrons may eat snacks in most areas of the library. Aromatic, noisy, or greasy foods are not permitted. No food is allowed in the Oakley Reading Room, the Special Collections Reading Room, the media rooms, or the computer labs. Beverages in closed containers are permitted in the library with one exception: the computer labs. For those wishing to purchase snacks and drinks or to consume larger meals, please visit our self-service cafe, Legal Eats (1st floor).

Cell Phones

Cell phone conversations are prohibited, with the exceptions of the second and fifth floor atriums and the landings on each floor.

Lost and Found

The circulation desk is the temporary repository for personal items found in the Library. Items not claimed within 24 hours are sent to the Department of Public Safety (DPS), which can be reached at 202-662-9325.


Please don't reshelve any books since we collect statistics on use of library materials. Just leave them on the table.  Library staff collect all materials not checked out to assigned carrels each morning.


The mutilation, defacement, or unauthorized removal of Library books, equipment and other materials is prohibited.  Please do not highlight or write in Library books.

Tobacco Products

Use of tobacco products is not permitted anywhere in the Library.

Policy Compliance

In cases of exceptional or repeated violation of library policies, the Library reserves the right to revoke or refuse access to our facilities.
