Professor Stern is a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Baker & McKenzie’s North America Tax Practice Group. He advises multinational and individual clients on tax planning and dispute resolution matters, with particular emphasis on domestic and international tax planning for mergers, acquisitions, and other major corporate transactions. His practice includes advising on post-acquisition restructuring, deferral and repatriation planning, as well as more specialized areas such as withholding tax issues, debt-equity classification, debt modification, foreign currency, and judicial anti-abuse doctrines. His client base includes financial services, aerospace, pharmaceutical, information technology, and natural resources industries. Professor Stern has written numerous articles on domestic and international tax topics, and is a frequent speaker at Bloomberg BNA, TEI, and Baker & McKenzie client seminars. He has been a member of the Georgetown Law adjunct faculty since 2018.
