Maury joined KPMG’s Washington National Tax office in December 2015. Prior to joining KPMG, Maury served as Chief of Branch 4 in the IRS’s Office of Associate Chief Counsel (Corporate), where he managed a staff of attorneys and had responsibility as the senior technical reviewer on regulations projects (including the section 368(a)(1)(F) reorganizations, “big basis,” and section 337(d) regulations packages), private letter ruling requests, and Exam and Appeals matters involving subchapter C and consolidated return issues. Maury also served on the steering committees of the IRS’s International Practice Network for Repatriations and for Cross-Border Organizations and Restructurings. Before that, Maury practiced with the Mergers & Acquisitions Tax group of another Big 4 firm in its Washington National and San Francisco offices, as a Tax Counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance, and with a law firm in Austin, TX.Maury has extensive experience in subchapter C and consolidated returns matters, cross-border restructurings, and M&A transactions. He also has experience across a wide range of industries, including technology, software, energy, consumer products, and REITs. Maury was a principal draftsman of KPMG LLP’s comment letter on the proposed regulations under section 385, and he has advised numerous clients regarding intercompany financing, cash management, and compliance with the regulations.
