EXPERIENCE
Michael E. Bauer is a principal and the National Tax Office Financial Transactions Practice Leader at BDO USA LLP. He has 15 years of experience assisting clients on matters involving the taxation of financial instruments including the taxation of derivatives, domestic and cross-border debt issuance and refinancing transactions, tax hedging transactions, foreign currency transactions, and cryptocurrency transactions. Michael is a former Chair of the ABA Financial Institutions and Products Committee and has written and spoken extensively on a wide range of financial transaction related topics. He received his LL.M. in Taxation (with distinction) from the Georgetown University Law Center and his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
