Professor Kirkpatrick is an attorney with Public Citizen Litigation Group (PCLG), which he joined in 2004. PCLG is a public interest law firm and the litigating division of Public Citizen, a national advocacy organization that works to protect health, safety, and democracy. Professor Kirkpatrick’s practice areas at PCLG include constitutional law, civil rights, class actions, administrative law, and open government, including practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. From 2014-2016, Professor Kirkpatrick was a full-time Visiting Professor at the Law Center and Director of the Civil Rights Clinic. Earlier in his career, he was a senior trial attorney with the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice (1995-2004), and a staff attorney with the Farm Worker Division of Texas Rural Legal Aid (1991-1995). Professor Kirkpatrick is a recipient of the Public Justice Trial Lawyer of the Year Award, the Peter M. Cicchino Award for Outstanding Advocacy in the Public Interest, and a seven-time recipient of the Department of Justice Special Achievement Award. He has served as a Wasserstein Public Interest Fellow at Harvard Law School, the Law and Policy Mentor for the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, and as a Government Fellow for the ABA’s Section of Labor and Employment Law.
