Vanessa Scott has taught in Georgetown Law’s Taxation LL.M. program since 2015, where her courses focus on the taxation of employee benefits and ERISA. She is a 2006 graduate of the GULC LL.M. program and is currently a partner in Ice Miller LLP’s Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation practice in Washington, D.C.

Before returning to private practice in 2025, Scott served as a Vice President and benefits and executive compensation counsel in the law department of a Fortune 100 company. Earlier in her career, she worked as a Congressional aide and as a Washington representative for Fortune 500 companies.

A Fellow of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel and a member of the American College of Tax Counsel, Scott is a subcommittee co-chair and frequent speaker at the American Bar Association’s Section of Taxation events. Her current scholarship interests include the intersection of artificial intelligence and employee benefits law, including fiduciary considerations for AI-driven plan administration and the application of ERISA preemption principles to emerging state AI regulation.
