Feb. 23 Symposium: The Governance & Regulation of Information Platforms
February 15, 2018
WASHINGTON – Georgetown Law’s Institute for Technology Law & Policy will host a full-day symposium on the governance and regulation of information platforms on Friday, Feb. 23.
WHAT
From Facebook to Amazon to internet search engines and service providers, information platforms have ever greater power to shape our society and our personal lives. As they offer increased connectedness and convenience, how should companies govern themselves to protect privacy, increase transparency and address damaging content such as fake news, revenge porn, hate speech and extremism? Where should government step in — and how should policymakers promote competition, access and affordability? During the symposium’s four panels, leading experts from academia and the policy arena will discuss pressing questions and proposed solutions for regulating a dramatically-reordered information landscape.
