1L Foundations
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work in Congress? The 1L Foundations program introduces first-year law students to the practice of legislative lawyering at the intersection of law and politics and the wide variety of legal career opportunities available on Capitol Hill.
The goal of 1L Foundations is to provide first-year students with a “foundation” to explore congressional careers. In this year-long, non-credit program, students will participate in organized visits to Congress, learn from and connect with current and former Hill staff, and hear about resources at Georgetown Law for students interested in congressional careers.
1L Foundations meets twice a month on Friday mornings during the fall and spring semesters. Each session lasts an hour and a half. Students are expected to engage fully in each session and may be asked to complete one or two short assignments each semester. Completion of the program requires students to attend all Friday sessions with the exception of one absence each semester.
To apply for 1L Foundations, prepare a one-page application with your name, section, and expected graduation date; a brief explanation of why you would like to participate in 1L Foundations; and confirmation that, if selected, you will engage fully and attend Friday sessions for both semesters.
