Tyler Bates
Tyler Bates is a Georgetown Law Graduate and the 2024-25 CICS Legal Fellow. Tyler is a proud native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Before attending Georgetown University Law Center, he graduated from Louisiana State University, majoring in political science and minoring in sociology.
While at GULC, Tyler served as BLSA President his 3L year and as a Special Events Coordinator his 2L year. He was also a research assistant for Professor Han and Rostain, respectively, with his work focusing on addressing accent discrimination in the workplace and access to justice initiatives in South Carolina. Tyler has also worked at Equal Justice Under Law, a civil rights organization that focuses on decriminalizing poverty in America. Upon graduation, Tyler was one of two students awarded the Dean’s Achievement, an award presented at Dean William M. Treanor’s discretion to the students who have shown outstanding leadership and made invaluable contributions to the Georgetown Law Community.
Outside of the legal realm, Tyler works in the esports community. He played for Louisiana State University’s esports team and is a collegiate world champion. Now, he is a renowned esports commentator and hosts a weekly podcast called “First Touch. “ He discusses current events in esports and performs live in front of audiences of over 10,000 and over 300,000 watching online. Tyler is excited to serve as CICS Legal Fellow this year!
