ICJI Announces Appointment of Senior Fellows

The International Criminal Justice Initiative at the Georgetown University Law Center is pleased to announce the re-appointment of three Senior Fellows: Irisa Cevra, Davorka Colak and Dr. Ingrid Elliott MBE. 

“We are delighted to renew these fellowships,” said Clint Williamson, Senior Director for International Justice at Georgetown. “Davorka, Irisa and Ingrid each bring decades of experience investigating and prosecuting atrocity crimes and will be a tremendous asset to the Law Center community.”

The Senior Fellows help develop and advise various ICJI initiatives on atrocity crimes accountability, including research on relevant legal issues, strategic assessments on gaps in accountability and analysis of responses to ongoing and past conflicts. Additionally, Senior Fellows are asked to engage with the community at Georgetown to inspire and guide future generations of professionals working in international criminal justice.

Cevra, a native of Sarajevo, is a Senior Expert for the Atrocity Crimes Advisory Group for Ukraine. Her experience includes serving as the Head of the Legal Advisory Section at the War Crimes Department of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina. With more than two decades of experience, she has focused primarily on strategic approaches to investigations and prosecutions of complex atrocity crimes cases and transitional justice issues.   

Colak has more than 15 years of experience adjudicating atrocity crimes at the national and international levels and is a Senior Expert for the Atrocity Crimes Advisory Group for Ukraine. She is a Deputy County Prosecutor in the County Attorney’s Office in Zagreb assigned to the War Crimes Department, which covers atrocity crimes, terrorism cases and sex-crimes cases. 

Dr. Elliott is an internationally-recognized expert in conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) and is the ACA Prosecutions Coordinator for CRSV. Dr. Elliott has worked on CRSV investigation and response for Ukraine, Syria, Iraq, Libya, Myanmar/ Bangladesh, and South Sudan, as well as building investigation and prosecution capacities with national justice actors across East Africa. As well, she is the primary drafter of the Murad Code, a global initiative aimed at creating a community of better practice for, with and concerning survivors of systemic and conflict-related sexual violence.
