About Bruce R. Hopkins

Bruce dedicated his professional life to his work in nonprofit law. He practiced law in Washington, DC. and Kansas City, MO, for over 50 years, receiving recognition and numerous awards for his efforts. His voice lives on in the over 45 books he wrote, widely ranging from “The Law of Tax-Exempt Organizations,” the definitive legal treatise in this area of the law, to “The Bruce R. Hopkins’ Nonprofit Counsel,” his monthly newsletter, to practical guides about nonprofits for laypeople, to memoirs and poetry. Often referred to as the “Dean of Nonprofit Law,” he was a presenter and featured speaker, nationally and internationally, at numerous conferences throughout his career. Bruce was a widely known and highly admired figure within the legal community and an enriching presence for all who knew him.

To honor his legacy, Georgetown is seeking support to establish the Bruce R. Hopkins Nonprofit Law Endowed Fund. We invite you to join in honoring Bruce, and at the same time, contribute to the program he established at the Law Center. This fund is an endowment, which means that Bruce’s memory will live on in perpetuity at Georgetown University Law Center through the work of the Continuing Legal Education Program.
