Nora Ryan grew up in Fair Haven, New Jersey. She earned her B.A. in Psychology from Georgetown University, where she also studied Government and Spanish.

During her undergraduate career, Nora served as an intern in the United States Senate and led a mentorship program that connected Georgetown students with underserved D.C. high school students to work one-on-one through the college application process. Upon graduation, Nora pursued her passion for public service by volunteering with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. She spent a year in Austin, Texas working alongside women with children overcoming homelessness at a supportive housing program during the COVID-19 crisis. At the program, she provided comprehensive bilingual wraparound services and led weekly programming for youth. Through this experience, Nora deepened her awareness of the inequities that too many women-led families face and the layers of systemic injustice that result in women facing poverty at a disproportionate rate.

Following her time in Austin, Nora returned to the United States Senate where she served for three years on Senator Cory Booker’s economic policy team. In this role, she supported the Senator’s efforts to alleviate child poverty and close the racial wealth gap. Nora helped draft a series of letters from the Senator to large corporations urging them to improve working conditions, and to the nation’s largest financial institutions asking them to rein in exploitative practices. Nora led the introduction of the Senator’s legislation to reconnect people to educational opportunities and new career paths, and to expand job opportunities in under-invested communities. While in the Senator’s office, Nora learned the most effective advocates are committed to pursuing equal justice.

Nora’s goal is to use her Georgetown Law education and the skills she develops at the Law Center to pursue a career in public interest law and tackle the systemic injustices that feed inequality, feminize poverty, and lead to substantial economic disparities.

In her free time, the Jersey girl in Nora loves to be near the ocean. She also enjoys going on walks with friends and running. In November 2023, she completed the NYC Marathon!
