Veronica Hayes grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She earned a B.A. in English Literature and Political Science with comprehensive honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

During her undergraduate career, Veronica served as a legislative intern with the Wisconsin State Legislature. She interned with the Fulbright Program in the U.S. Department of State and was awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Grant in 2022, although she ultimately declined the award. During her senior year of college, Veronica completed an internship with the Department of Board and Judicial Appointments at the Office of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. In this role, she collaborated with a team of attorneys to promote inclusive recruiting practices and assist in appointing board, commission, and judicial nominees. Through this experience, she gained insight into the vital role that judicial appointments play in ensuring a fair and diverse judiciary.

Following her graduation, Veronica pursued her passion for public service by completing an Americorps Service year as a Development VISTA with Junior Achievement North, a nonprofit dedicated to providing equitable access to financial literacy education for K-12 students. Additionally, she delved deeper into her interest in judicial appointments as a Strategic Engagement Associate with the American Constitution Society. In this role, she gained a better understanding of the federal judicial nomination process, established relationships with influential decision-makers, and contributed to grassroots-level attorney working groups aimed at identifying and supporting potential judicial candidates.

In the future, Veronica hopes to work at the intersection of law and public policy to promote a fair, equitable, and ethical federal judiciary. She is excited to take advantage of the outstanding clinical and academic opportunities Georgetown Law offers at the intersection of these areas.

In her free time, Veronica enjoys long-distance running, exploring DC with friends, and reading mystery novels.
