Eric Abreu

Eric Abreu is an Officer with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C.

He studied Political Science at Portland State University, with a focus on National Security issues.

He also studied colloquial and Modern Standard Arabic during school.

Officer Abreu moved to the greater metropolitan area of Washington, D.C. in 2014 to work in the private sector.

Carimaxy Benitez-Garcia

Carimaxy Benitez-Garcia is an Officer with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C. She is currently detailed to the Inauguration Planning Committee in the Homeland Security Bureau. Prior to her current assignment, she was assigned to the Third District where she served as a Patrol Officer and was then assigned to the Nightlife Unit.

Prior to becoming an Officer, Officer Benitez-Garcia was the Supervisor for the Telecommunications Department at a hospital in the Bronx, NY. Her professional background includes interning with NASA as a climate change researcher and public health advocate. During her internship, Officer Benitez-Garcia worked alongside scientists to help create maps with prediction estimates for climate in the year 2100 and gathered data on asthma and its correlation to PM2.5 (Particulate Matter).

Officer Benitez-Garcia also interned with Neighbors Allied for Good Growth as a GIS Specialist. She helped create an interactive map on health concerns for Brooklyn, NY. This research was published for further analysis and to educate the community.

Officer Benitez-Garcia holds a Master’s degree in Geographic Information Science from Lehman College and a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from SUNY College at New Paltz. She is currently enrolled at the University of Maryland for a certificate in Terrorism Analysis.

Stephen Benson II

Officer Stephen Benson is a native Washingtonian. He brings private sector experiential marketing to his role as a Patrol Officer at the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department.

“I believe true community policing is an education-based approach using sound judgement and discretion as a tool to reduce crime and foster relationships,” says Officer Benson, who at one point patrolled his childhood neighborhoods in the Fourth District for four years. He routinely biked his beat on the Kennedy (KDY) Street NW Corridor.

In June 2019, Officer Benson was honored as the Fourth District Officer of the month for his work apprehending a group of violent robbery suspects. In February 2020, he received notification that he would be honored as a 2019 Fourth District Officer of the Year. Currently, Officer Benson works in the Strategic Engagement Office in MPD Headquarters. His daily work consists of content creation and development across multimedia both audio and visual, to expand recruitment and outreach efforts.

Officer Benson has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from Strayer University and a Master of Business Administration in Marketing from the University of Maryland Global Campus.

Jeremy D. Brady

After growing up in the small town of Bel Air, Maryland, Jeremy Brady realized that he was ready to experience more diversity and moved near Baltimore at the age of eighteen. This was an eye-opening experience and he realized the world was much bigger than his small-town upbringing.

In 1998, Jeremy had an opportunity to start a career in the field of Information Technology that included travel to twenty-seven countries while based out of the Caribbean. Jeremy’s Information Technology career continued and provided an outstanding experience to grow and landed him in Washington, D.C., with an intention of only staying in the area for three years.  After twenty enjoyable years, he still resides in Washington.

While continuing his Information Technology career, Jeremy realized he needed to find a way to give back to the community as this was a large part of his family values, but this had to be in an exciting way to fulfill his adrenaline side. In 2007 Jeremy discovered the Metropolitan Police Department Reserve Corps, applied, was accepted, and attended the police academy.

Upon graduation from the police academy, he was assigned to the Dupont Circle area of the Second District. While serving as a Reserve Police Officer, he was awarded the 2011 Reserve Officer of the Year award, numerous achievement awards, and worked as an adjunct recruiter and instructor at the police academy in addition to his patrol duties. In 2015, Jeremy had an opportunity to serve with the Department of State in the Republic of Congo, working at the U.S. Embassy for an amazing two year assignment. Upon return to the United States, Jeremy joined the ranks of MPD as a career police officer.

Tipi N. Brookins

Tipi Brookins was born in Philadelphia, PA, and raised in Clayton, NJ. After graduating from high school, she began her management career in Richmond, Virginia. In 2002 she moved back to the Tri-State area to continue her management career in Law Enforcement. She began her career path with Amtrak Police as a police dispatcher.

She then worked at the Montgomery County Emergency Dispatch Services as a call taker, dispatcher, and a 911 Supervisor. Following that experience, she joined the Delaware Department of Justice Consumer Protection Unit as a Fraud Program Manager. Currently, she is the Teletype Unit Manager with MPD. This current role continues to give her the opportunity to utilize past knowledge gathered from previous positions in order to assist members of the department.

Michael Brumbaugh

Michael Brumbaugh has lived in the Washington Metropolitan Area for his entire life. He retired from the US Park Police after 21 years of service (1993-2014). The most significant event in his career as a police officer was 09/11/2001. “I still have PTSD symptoms from that episode,” says Brumbaugh.

After retiring from the US Park Police, he worked for the Maryland Judiciary for two and a half years as a commissioner in Montgomery County, MD. During this experience, he says he witnessed a different side of law enforcement by making probable cause decisions for both custodial arrests and arrest warrants; determining if an arrestee could be released prior to their court date; and bond amounts and conditions.

Brumbaugh is very interested in addiction and how police and society interact with individuals who have an addiction, as well as the ramifications of including these individuals in the criminal justice system.

Lisa A. Burton

Agent Lisa Burton recently joined the Internal Affairs Division as an Investigator, but initially came on board with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) as a Criminal Research Specialist in the Joint Strategic and Tactical Analysis Command Center (JSTACC), Command Information Center (CIC).

She was first detailed to the MPD CIC, post 9/11, in her capacity as a Special Agent Criminal Investigator for the Federal Protective Service (FPS), to serve and partner with MPD as the in-house federal liaison. Lisa’s law enforcement career spans over twenty-five years beginning with the District Attorney’s Office of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1991. Once she began her federal service, she held a variety of positions including Police Officer, Criminal Investigator, and Supervisory Special Agent. Lisa’s service to the District of Columbia Government began in 2011 when she joined the staff at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC).

While at UDC she served the community as a Supervisory Police Officer and as an Adjunct Professor for the Community College’s Workforce Development Program. She is a graduate of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), holds a Master’s degree in Homeland Security Emergency Management from UDC, and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Kutztown University. In August 2014, her debut article entitled Managing Public Mental Health: Locally & Globally was published in the Guyana Journal.

Evan Christopher Douglas

Officer Evan Douglas is a proud Washingtonian who is passionate about his community. He was born and raised in the Northwest quadrant of the city where he attended Whittier Elementary, Paul Public Charter School, and graduated from School Without Walls High School. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Temple University in 2015. While attending Temple University, Officer Douglas also held positions on several executive boards for student organizations such as The Temple University’s Criminal Justice Society and the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

After his undergraduate career, he returned home to D.C. where he worked as an educator at Seed Public Charter School in Southeast D.C. After several months of inspiring young minds, Officer Douglas finally decided to answer the call for duty and joined the Metropolitan Police Department in 2016. He was assigned to the Seventh District as a Patrol Officer in PSA 706 which won MPD’s Patrol Service Area of the Year Award in 2017.

Off duty, Officer Douglas mentors with College Bound Inc., a college preparatory program in Washington, D.C. Also in his free time, he enjoys practicing Muay Thai and Jiujitsu and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Criminology from George Washington University. Officer Douglas is now assigned to the Seventh District Environmental Crimes Unit.

Jose O. Guzman

Jose O. Guzman Jr. is an officer assigned to the Fourth District. He was born and raised in Bronx, New York. In 2014, Officer Guzman earned his Associates degree in Criminal Justice from Bronx Community College. He earned his bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Institutional Theory and Practice and received a certification in Alternative Dispute Resolution in 2016 from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

Officer Guzman has a diverse background with city government and youth & community relations. He worked with the New York City Citizen’s Crime Commission on their “Cure Violence” program. He also worked with the New York City Police Department’s Police Community and Youth Relations department as a community leader, where his committee work focused on developing solutions to improve police community and youth relations.

Before joining the MPD, Officer Guzman worked for the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development as a case manager focusing on Section 8 and affordable housing. In addition, he has worked as an Investigative Intern, with the New York City Housing Authority’s Department of Equal Opportunity.

Daniel Kornfield

Reserve Officer Dan Kornfield was born in Illinois, grew up as a missionary kid in São Paulo Brazil, and has lived in D.C. for 15 years. He serves as a civilian supervisor of the Research and Analytical Services Branch at MPD, helping district commanders with deployment decisions.  Previously he worked on the budget team within DC’s Office of the City Administrator.   Kornfield has a consulting and best-practices research background in the private sector, having worked at Frontier Strategy Group, Corporate Executive Board (CEB), and Stratfor. He says his most challenging job was right after college, teaching an after-school program for 7th and 8th grade youth for the South Bronx Educational Foundation.

Kornfield graduated from Yale University and from Johns Hopkins SAIS. He has adopted D.C. as home, and served for a brief term as an ANC commissioner for 1A (Columbia Heights). Dan speaks near-native Portuguese and describes his Spanish speaking ability as “so-so”.   In his free time,  he enjoys time outdoors, taking martial arts classes, volunteering, reading, and constructive debate. As an MPD Reserve Corps officer he serves in the Fourth District.

Anam Mumtaz

Officer Anam Mumtaz was born in Pakistan and raised in New Jersey. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University with a focus in General Biology. Officer Mumtaz has been working with the Metropolitan Police Department for almost three years. She is assigned to the Second District, and is also an affiliate member of the Special Liaison Branch.

Officer Mumtaz’s brother is also in the Department assigned to the First District as a sergeant. With her multilingual ability and diverse cultural experience, Mumtaz is passionate about serving the community and making a positive change.

Cory Novick

Officer Cory Novick joined the Metropolitan Police Department in April 2018. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Towson University where he majored in Sociology and Anthropology with a focus in Criminal Justice. Cory hails from Sykesville, Maryland, and comes from a law enforcement family.

From a young age, he has had a strong interest in law enforcement. He enjoys working in the District of Columbia as a police officer and strives to make a positive change in the community. In his free time he enjoys hiking, weight lifting, and spending time with friends and family.

Christopher Paige

Officer Christopher Paige  joined the Metropolitan Police Department in August of 2017.  He attended Howard University in Washington, D.C., from 2007-2011, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Administration of Justice. After graduating from Howard, Chris returned to his hometown of Winston- Salem, NC where he joined the Winston-Salem Police Department in January of 2012. While at the WSPD, Officer Paige worked in Patrol from 2012 to 2015, and then worked as a Burglary Investigator from 2015 to 2017. He also served one year as a probationary SWAT Officer with the WSPD SWAT Team and as an advisor to the Police Explorers.

Officer became engaged and is set to be married in April of 2019, to his fiancé whom he met in Winston-Salem. They have a dog named Bulleit and live together in Northeast D.C. Paige currently works in the Third District where he loves the diversity of people and calls for service. Chris enjoys living in D.C., serving its citizens, and is looking forward to an exciting career with MPD.

Tim Parrish

Tim Parrish was born in the suburbs of Orlando, Florida, and grew up throughout the Central Florida area. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving as an Infantryman. After eight years of active duty service, Tim has extensive experience working domestically and abroad, specializing in the protection of American personnel, information, and equipment at overseas diplomatic facilities and other locations of American interest.

Tim is a part of the leadership team of a private safety, security, and risk mitigation consulting firm where he and his team assist houses of worship, small businesses, and other organizations with safety and security structure development, internal security, risk mitigation, process improvement, and policy formulation. Additionally, Tim serves as a Reserve Police Officer with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., where he is currently assigned to the Seventh District.

Tim has a passion for public safety, law enforcement, and serving the community. Having been stationed in the nation’s capital area several times, Tim has adopted the D.C. area as his home and plans to remain in the District long-term. In addition to several professional certifications, Tim holds an Associate degree from the American Military University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law Enforcement Administration from Ashford University in San Diego, CA.

Dillon Savage

Dillon Savage is an officer assigned to the Sixth District. He graduated from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY, in May 2018, where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree with dual majors in Psychology and Business in the Liberal Arts. In his junior year at St. Lawrence, Savage proudly participated in a full semester internship at the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department where he worked in the First District Detectives Unit.

During his college career, Savage achieved a semester on the Dean’s list and was the recipient of the St. Lawrence Momentum Scholarship. In addition, Savage was a Division III College Football Athlete for two years on the Liberty League Champion College Football teams and was a leader of the College Rugby team as a player and captain during his Junior and Senior years.  Savage has volunteered on numerous leadership activities and organizations, including Male Athletes Against Sexual Violence (MAASV), which provided college students with safe walks at night. He also volunteered at a local soup kitchen to help those in need.

While on college summer breaks, Savage never forgot about his home community and worked full time at a local community hospital as a Clinical Assistant/ER Tech for five consecutive years helping patients in his local communities. Savage obtained his certification in Scuba Diving I and II. He is originally from Upper Jay in the Northern Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York and he currently resides in Alexandria, Virginia.

Corbin Seward

Corbin A. Seward was born and raised in a small town in central Massachusetts.  His father is from Canada and his mother is from Boston, Massachusetts. He describes his parents as ” spectacular and hardworking “.  Corbin has three other siblings and was homeschooled up until high school when he attended Saint John’s High School, a few towns over.

While in high school, he participated in varsity crew, football, and theater. He was a member of the National Honor Society and was able to accomplish his goal of getting a scholarship to attend Howard University in Washington, D.C., from which he graduated with a degree in Economics and a minor in Political Science.

As a police officer in the Seventh District, Corbin strives to build relationships with the community he serves and tries to live the motto of being “here to help” with or without the uniform on. He believes in the spirit of the law he enforces and recognizes the crucial role a first responder plays in everyday society. Corbin is determined to be a role model for the youth and a great example of the Metropolitan Police Department to those who engage with him.  In his free time, he enjoys living in the city where he works, taking breaks every so often to go fishing, swimming, and work ing-out with friends.

Tamicka A. Smithson

Tamicka Smithson is a community advocate from Baltimore City, MD. She graduated Valedictorian of her class as a student athlete from Dunbar High School. She competed in an international track competition in Australia, attended youth leadership and biomedical symposiums in California, and interned at Johns Hopkins Hospital in the Pathology/Radiology departments.

Tamicka received a full academic scholarship to the University of Maryland College Park where she graduated with a B.A. in Psychology. She became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., serving as fundraising chair and has also volunteered at Calvary Women’s shelter, the Children’s National Hospital, and tutored children with special needs in D.C.

After graduating from college, Tamicka moved to California where she worked in Risk Management and assisted with training various athletes. She relocated to Maryland in 2015 at which time she co-founded a non-profit, “It Takes One Inc.”, that gives her the opportunity to mentor and provide college scholarships to deserving Baltimore City high school students. In 2017 she became a sworn member of MPD but now serves as a civilian member in the Medical Services Division.

Tamicka is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Psychology, is involved in her church community, and dedicated to helping others. She is also an avid traveler and loves volunteering.

John Jay Sullivan

Before joining the Metropolitan Police Department, John Sullivan successfully pursued dual careers as an entrepreneur and internationally award winning filmmaker. As an entrepreneur, Mr. Sullivan has helped raise millions of dollars for businesses in various sectors including entertainment, complementary and alternative medicine, and tech.

Among various media projects, Mr. Sullivan produced the critically acclaimed independent film Fort Bliss starring Michelle Monaghan and Ron Livingston.  The film won the 2014 GI Film Festival, the Audience Award at the 2014 Champs-Elysees Festival, and the D.C. TIVA Peer Award for Best Feature Film. Mr. Sullivan’s documentary Farang Ba (Crazy White Foreigner), won the 2003 Banff Rockie Award for Best Documentary in Sport and was sold to the Trio Channel/Universal as well as the Discovery Health Channel in Canada.

Mr. Sullivan worked at ABC News Productions in the documentary unit, where he worked to assemble documentaries for A&E’s Biography series. He then left ABC News Productions to produce, direct, shoot, and edit television and radio ads for the David L. Garth. Mr. Sullivan’s production company, Naked Emperor Productions Inc., has worked with clients that include ABC News, Eastman Kodak, Telepiu–Canalplus, SkyTV, Corriere della Serra, Yeniceri Produksiyon, and The Garth Group. Born and raised in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of D.C., Mr. Sullivan received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Hamilton College.

Harry Weiss

Officer Harry Weiss has been a sworn member of the Metropolitan Police Department for over two years, and is currently assigned to Patrol in the Third District, PSA 304. He was born in the United Kingdom, but has lived in Washington, DC, for eight years. He first came to D.C. attend college at American University, where he studied Political Science.

Prior to becoming a police officer, Harry worked in politics, and also volunteered at the Glen Echo Fire Department in Montgomery County, Maryland. Harry has also volunteered at other D.C. based non-profits, including D.C. Central Kitchen, where his cooking skills went from nonexistent to basic! As a police officer, Harry enjoys meeting and serving the people of D.C. and the Cardoza/Columbia Heights neighborhood. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, soccer, and is trying to learn Italian. Harry hopes to one day soon get his Master’s Degree.
