Ming-xue Chiu

Ming-xue grew up in Washington state and has roots in China, Taiwan, and Norway. Prior to attending Georgetown Law she was a Yenching Scholar at Peking University in Beijing, where she obtained her Master of Law. While attending the Yenching Academy, Ming-xue researched government-mandated migration programs, ecological zoning regulations, local government finance, and land development projects and their respective roles in China’s broader urbanization and economic growth strategies. She also worked at APCO, consulting on government-corporate relations and translating between Mandarin and English.

Ming-xue was a STRIDE Scholar at Smith College, where she completed her B.A. in Chinese with a minor in Environmental Science and Policy. Her capstone project at Smith addressed nationalism in Chinese and Taiwanese language policy from 1949 to present. She has contributed to several books, has worked in an immigration law firm, and was the co-director and co-founder of a youth literacy non-profit. Her poetry has been published twice.

In her free time, Ming-xue enjoys Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, salsa, visiting aquariums, lifting weights, sewing, writing and reading poetry, and trying new recipes. She speaks English and Mandarin Chinese, and is in the process of adding Spanish to her list.
