Varun is focused on administrative and health law issues. He holds a Master of Public Health from Boston University where he studied organ procurement and Medicaid estate recovery. His recent research has focused on federal regulatory power over livestock animal vaccination, especially in relation to the ongoing avian influenza outbreak. This work has included supporting the New Jersey Department of Health’s bioinformatics program to study the virus’ transmission dynamics and propose appropriate infectious disease surveillance measures.

Varun graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh Honors College with his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology. His research with the Kohl Lab focused on the gut microbiomes of frogs and mice to study host-microbe interactions. His undergraduate thesis analyzed the role of cell wall lipids as a virulence factor for tuberculosis.

At Georgetown Law, Varun is a member of its Barrister’s Council and is competing in the John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition on international trade law. In his free time, he enjoys reading science fiction and editing Wikipedia’s law and microbiology content.
