Who are you? Tell us about yourself!

My name is Meera Rohera and I am a rising 2L at Georgetown Law. I was born and raised in Mumbai and came to the U.S. to pursue my undergraduate degree. I studied political science and philosophy and then worked in public relations for three years before law school. On the side, I helped launch an Indian think tank focused on outer space law and policy which really sparked my interest in technology law.

What drew you to Georgetown’s Law? 

A key reason I chose Georgetown Law was the strength of its programming around technology law. I wanted to be somewhere that not only offered courses on space law but also other areas at the intersection of law and technology to broaden my understanding of the challenges facing law, tech, and society. Beyond the curriculum, I was drawn to the Tech Scholars program that would allow me to engage with technology law right from the first year of law school as well as the Communications & Technology Law Clinic offering hands-on learning early on.

Tell us about your work experience before law school.

Before law school, I worked at a PR firm in D.C. helping execute national and state public affairs campaigns for a variety of clients from companies and trade associations to think tanks and patient advocacy groups. In that role, I researched state and federal legislative issues, drafted messaging and developed media strategies to help clients advance policy priorities with key government decisionmakers. At the Indian think tank, Spaceport Sarabhai, I helped (and continue to!) edit reports on emerging issues in outer space, organize panel discussions on space safety, security, and sustainability, and also record and publish a podcast called ‘Space for Diplomacy’.

What have you been working on as a summer intern? 

As a summer intern, I have mainly been supporting the Georgetown AI and Legal Profession (GAILP) Initiative at the Georgetown Institute for Technology Law and Policy (ITLP). I have had the chance to read about and research models for AI adoption in law and consider the current and future use of AI in legal education. I have also had the opportunity to use the skills from my previous work before law school to help brainstorm how GAILP may expand its reach.

What interests do you have outside of law?

Outside of law school, I enjoy exploring museums and galleries in D.C., learning to cook different cuisines, and enjoying the weather at the park with my friends!
