The Redesigning the Governance Stack Project was a multi-year effort to reinvent the institutions and tools used to govern technology and technology companies. It prioritized public accountability and strong public oversight, seeking to restore and recenter the rule of law within a new institutional framework designed around information-economy needs and failure modes. The project was a “full stack” effort, encompassing the sorts of implementation details that shorter-term projects might propose but also extending down to rethink fundamental principles of regulatory organization and operation.

The project produced papers for six pillars: Regulatory Monitoring, Govtech Provisioning, Policy Mechanisms, Inclusion Mechanisms, Legitimacy and Accountability, and Enforcement. 

During this two-day public symposium, project authors and invited experts will discuss the project’s findings, reflect on its broader implications, and explore future directions for administrative governance of the information economy.
