Make a Gift to the Tech Institute
The Tech Institute is funded by a combination of institutional support from Georgetown Law, government and foundation grants, law firm sponsorships, revenue-generating arrangements and events, and individual gifts from private donors. We invite you to make a gift today!

Restrictions and Disclosures Regarding Funding and Support
The Tech Institute faculty and staff are committed to intellectual autonomy, and the Tech Institute will maintain full academic freedom and integrity.
With the exception of gifts for scholarship aid, the Tech Institute does not accept funding from companies or trade associations. Gifts from companies or trade associations for scholarship aid to students in Georgetown’s technology law and policy programs are coordinated with Georgetown Law’s Development Office and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
No outside institution may dictate the outcome of any research project, convening, or other work of the Tech Institute. Funders will sign a gift agreement stating that their support does not entitle them to shape or influence the work of the Tech Institute and an acknowledgement that the funds may be used for activities that criticize or conflict with their interests. In the event a funder attempts to assert control over any Tech Institute work, the Tech Institute reserves the right to return any unused funds (or, if appropriate, all funds) and sever the support arrangement. The Tech Institute lists on its website all donors and the uses of donated funds, and publishes an annual report that includes the same information.
No events, whether one-time, a series, or annual, may be named for a law firm, company, or association.
Strategic Fundraising Priorities
We welcome the opportunity to discuss major endowment and current-use gifts for vital core support, existing programs, and new initiatives. While the Tech Institute is always open to conversations regarding any programs or projects that could fit under the Tech Institute’s purview and further our mission, particularly in consultation with Georgetown Law leadership, fundraising for 2025-29 will prioritize the following expenses as institutional support is phased out:
Personnel: Funding for Executive Director and Program Coordinator full salaries as institutional support decreases to zero in FY30. Additional staff, fellows, and student RAs as possible;
Operating expenses and fees;
Student program and journal support;
Event support, particularly support for the annual Tech Foundations for Government Staff program. Tech Foundations support would allow the continuation of the August recess in-person federal content with a potential add-on year-long cohort program, as well as the potential addition of virtual state/local content (could include some travel expenses), and judiciary content.
Research initiative support, particularly support for the Georgetown AI and the Legal Profession (GAILP) Initiative
Major Giving Opportunities
Naming Gifts: For a $10 million gift, typically paid over five years, a funder can name and endow the Tech Institute. For a $5 million gift, typically paid over five years, a funder can name and endow the Technology Law and Policy Scholars Program.
Law Firm Supporters Program: The Tech Institute’s Law Firm Supporters Program enables Georgetown Law and the Tech Institute to turn out the next generation of tech-informed lawyers and policymakers while allowing firms to connect and build relationships with students who will be leaders of that generation. Law firm supporters provide funding at tiered levels. Event funding is subject to the policies described above, but law firm supporters will be offered entrance to invitation-only events with Tech Law Scholars and may be invited to present in panel discussions.
Scholarships: Scholarships help exceptional J.D. applicants to Georgetown Law participate in the Tech Law Scholars Program but do not fund the other work of the Institute. $1.5 million will endow a full-tuition scholarship. Company or association gifts for scholarships to be administered by the Tech Institute will be considered on a case-by-case basis. If any two faculty directors or advisors object to any particular company or association scholarship source, the gift will not be associated with the Tech Institute and will be redirected to the general law school scholarship fund administrators for their consideration.
Georgetown Law Technology Review: A gift of $100,000 would endow journal operating expenses; a $8,000 current-use gift would cover one year. For the biannual symposium, $20,000 is needed every two years.
Georgetown AI and the Legal Profession (GAILP) Initiative: A gift of $2 million would endow the GAILP Initiative.
