Experiential Learning

What does it feel like to represent a client — to take responsibility for providing someone with critical guidance and counsel? At Georgetown Law, we have long understood that attorneys can only learn many of their most important skills by working with actual clients.

Our top-rated experiential learning programs allow our students to take classroom theory and apply it to real-life legal challenges right here in Washington, D.C. — immersing themselves in public policy, corporate, civil and criminal law.

Our focus on hands-on learning starts from the very first year of our J.D. program, with our in-house legal simulations, and it becomes an essential part of our second- and third-year students’ academic curriculum.

In fact, Georgetown Law guarantees opportunities to earn credits while seeing the law in action every semester. These include externships, project-based practicum courses and work in our 19 legal clinics — where we continue our Jesuit tradition of social justice and service to others.
