HOW CAN I PREPARE FOR THE COURSE?

There are no prerequisites for the Week One first-year simulation courses. All of them, however, require reading and preparation before classes begin on January 9, 2023. Students can expect to receive information about course materials and instructions via their course's Canvas page and/or their email in December.

HOW AM I EVALUATED?

First-Year Week One courses are highly participatory and graded on a pass/fail basis. The faculty do not expect you to be experts and will not grade you on the quality of your work, in or outside of class. Instead, you will be evaluated solely on your attendance and participation. For that reason, you must be present and on time for all class sessions and complete all class assignments.

WILL I EARN CREDIT, AND HOW AM I CHARGED?

JD students earn 1 credit toward the 85 credits needed to graduate. The 1 credit counts toward the 6 credits of experiential coursework required of students matriculating as first-year students in Fall 2016 or later.

The credit is graded Pass/Fail (as opposed to letter-graded) and is counted in the Spring semester courseload. The credit also counts toward the 13-credit cap for part-time students for the Spring semester. Note: this pass/fail credit does not count against the 7 credits of pass/fail coursework you can elect to take as an upperclass student.

Course tuition is included in the spring full-year tuition (for full-time students); part-time students pay the per-credit tuition rate for the Spring semester. For part-time students, tuition for the 1-credit Week One course will be added to the total spring tuition (i.e., there is no separate bill issued for the Week One course only).

Week One Enrollment Process

HOW MANY STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN WEEK ONE 2023?

We expect to offer over 250 seats with class sizes no larger than 24 students.

WHEN WILL ENROLLMENT TAKE PLACE AND HOW DO I REGISTER?

Please see the "Key Dates" section on the main Week One webpage for information about the First-Year Week One 2023 registration process.

Please note: If you encounter any technical difficulty with the Live Registration process in MyAccess, or if you have any inquiries regarding MyAccess, please contact the Registrar's Office. Their webpage may be found at the following link: https://www.law.georgetown.edu/academics/academic-resources/registrar/

WHAT IF I OBTAIN A SEAT IN A WEEK ONE COURSE BUT THEN DECIDE NOT TO TAKE THE COURSE?

Due to the intensive nature of Week One courses, the small-group, team, and individual work that is involved, and the preparation that is necessary to ensure a positive student experience, students who wish to drop their Week One course must do so by no later than 3:00 p.m. on Monday, November 28, 2022.

If a student wishes to drop a Week One course after Monday, November 28, 2022 at 3:00 p.m., they must secure the permission of their professor(s) and the Assistant Dean for Experiential Education. The Assistant Dean will only grant such requests when remaining enrolled in the course would cause significant hardship for the student. To seek such permission, students should send one email to both their professor(s) and the Assistant Dean for Experiential Education.

Students who are enrolled but do not attend the entirety of the first class session will be withdrawn from the course, with a corresponding "W" posted on their transcript next to the course name.
