Jack O’Brien is an Adjunct Professor of Law and co-teaches “Law of Investment Management and Fiduciary Duties” (Fall) and “Private Equity, Hedge and Other Private Funds” (Spring) along with Adjunct Professor Barry Barbash.

Professor O’Brien also works in private practice at Morgan Lewis, where he started his legal career in 2008. He is the Co-Head of the firm’s Registered Funds practice area, within its Investment Management practice group and is resident in the firm’s Philadelphia office.

Professor O’Brien counsels registered and private funds and fund managers in connection with organizational, offering, transactional, and compliance matters. He regularly works with a variety of different fund structures, including open-end and closed-end funds, exchange-traded funds, and hedge funds. He also counsels investment adviser and broker-dealer clients on various matters, particularly with respect to registration and disclosure, marketing regulations, pay-to-play issues, and transactions in exchange-traded funds.

He is a co-author of the Mutual Fund Regulation and Compliance Handbook, has published articles on a variety of financial services industry topics in Wall Street Lawyer, Investment Lawyer, Fund Directions, and Futures & Derivatives Law Report, and is a frequent public speaker within the investment management industry.
Professor O’Brien graduated from the University of Illinois in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in Geology. He earned his J.D. from Villanova University School of Law and his M.B.A. from Villanova University School of Business in 2008. Professor O’Brien is admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania.
