Joey is a 3L at Georgetown Law in Cohort 7 of the Business Law Scholars program. After law school, he plans on joining Davis Polk & Wardwell, LLP at its New York office working on financial regulations. On campus, he published a paper on a new, developer-centric regulatory framework for blockchain technology with Prof. Chris Brummer and is currently working on a paper on cryptocurrency insider trading with Prof. Donald Langevoort. During his 2L year, Joey externed at Wyoming Stable Token Commission and Blockchain Association and won a legal hackathon with an essay on tokenization. Recently, he and two law students from Berkeley Law and UChicago Law submitted a written proposal to the SEC regarding cryptocurrency staking. Currently (3L Fall semester), he is studying at Georgetown’s CTLS (Center for Transnational Legal Studies) in London.

Background

Prior to law school, Joey co-founded an Ethereum blockchain startup valued at $200 million with $4 million seed-round and $4 million Series A from a top-tier venture capital firm. Joey formed and managed the engineering team with over 20 engineers in Asia and North America. He directed the design of the core mathematical protocol of Sperax blockchain and the blockchain launch and led the Sperax engineering team to build applications on major blockchains with over 1 million users. Joey also worked as the Blockchain/Web3 Director for Newstyle Media Group in Los Angeles and Beijing.

Joey graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, with a degree in Mathematics of Computation and a minor in Philosophy.

Beyond Law School

Joey is from Hangzhou (杭州), China and speaks fluent English and Mandarin. Interests include karaoke, traveling, cultural history and philosophy, and soul games like Elden Ring.
