Mya Whiles
Mya Whiles grew up in Westampton, NJ. She earned her B.A. in Political Science from
Spelman College, where she also studied Creative Writing.
During her undergraduate career, Mya was involved in community service through
S.K.I.R.T.S. (Sisters Keeping It Real Through Service) to promote sisterhood and
wellness in Atlanta’s West End while also serving the local community. She also
advocated for voting rights for formerly incarcerated individuals as a Spelman on the Hill
participant, presenting her work on Capitol Hill.
Following graduation, Mya worked as a research assistant for Spelman College, where
she examined the impact of nuclear deterrence on marginalized communities,
contributing as a co-author to research published in the Harvard Dataverse and the
journal PS: Political Science & Politics. She also worked as a paraprofessional at
Brookfield Elementary School, supporting children with autism.
As a JD candidate at Georgetown and a first-generation American of Jamaican
heritage, Mya is deeply passionate about advancing public interest law. Her interests
center on the intersections of immigration, child advocacy, and civil rights, where she
seeks to drive meaningful change. Mya is dedicated to using her legal education and
experience to empower and serve her community.
In her free time, she likes watching horror movies, writing short stories, and spending
time with friends and family.
