Balaji Narain serves as the General Counsel for two congressional commissions: the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology and the National Commission on the Future of the Navy. In these capacities, he advises Commissioners and staff on legal and national security issues. He previously served as General Counsel to Senator Jon Ossoff (GA), a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence; Balaji advised the Senator on national security matters and also served as General Counsel to the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.

Prior to his work in the Senate, Balaji served on Active Duty as a U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate. He advised commanders and served as a prosecutor in Alaska, South Korea, and the Pentagon. During his military service, he deployed as part of the War on Terror and served as Chief of Military Justice and Operations Law.

Before serving in the federal government, Balaji practiced law in the private sector. He graduated from Harvard Law School with Honors.
