Brian Eschels is a cybersecurity attorney with a decade of experience advising cybersecurity operators, policymakers, and senior leaders in the federal government. For nearly all of that time, Professor Eschels has served in the Office of the Chief Counsel at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). Mr. Eschels advises on CISA’s cybersecurity mission, with a particular focus on operational collaboration with private companies, threat hunting on federal and non-federal networks, and counter-ransomware efforts.

Before joining CISA, Professor Eschels started at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of the General Counsel through the DHS Honors Attorney Program, where he served rotations at the U.S. Secret Service, the Transportation Security Administration, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the National Protection and Programs Directorate (which later become CISA).

Mr. Eschels graduated from New York University School of Law, where he was an ASPIRE cybersecurity scholar and was funded by the federal Scholarship for Service Program, and from the University of Washington. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional.
