This application is the process for the 2024-25 academic year (including summer 2024 for continuing students).

Student loan financing of your education at Georgetown Law is limited to private/commercial loans.

Step 1 - Budget

Figure out how much you will need to spend on tuition, books and living expenses (Cost of Attendance) for the upcoming academic year to attend Georgetown Law.

When the linked page opens, select the correct aid year and select the appropriate student budget.

You will request the amount you need in Step 6, below.

Executive LLM and Master's programs have a separate graduate budget.

Step 2 - Georgetown Law Credentials - Incoming Students

After you are admitted you can retrieve your Georgetown Net ID credential from the Admitted Student Website. Any questions regarding your credentials, please notify the Office of Admissions at lawhotline@georgetown.edu.

Step 3 - Set-Up Your Georgetown Password - Incoming Students

Once you have your Georgetown Net ID credential you can establish your new Georgetown password through Georgetown's Password Management System. Any questions regarding your password, please notify the Office of Admissions at lawhotline@georgetown.edu.

Step 4 - Loan Type (Private/Commercial)

Step 5 - Loan Documents

Continuing JD and Graduate Level students - apply for your private loan AFTER March 15th.

Incoming JD - apply for your private loan AFTER June 1 and BEFORE July 15th.

Contrary to what your lender may tell you, we ARE NOT notified of your loan. You MUST complete an application for Financial Aid (Step 6) in order for us to initiate a loan on your behalf.

Step 6 - (Incoming JD) Complete the Yellow Application for Financial Aid

Complete your application for financial aid. This application can be submitted ONLY ONCE so please ensure accuracy and completeness.

Complete the Georgetown Law Yellow Application ONLY, if you are an incoming or transfer JD student.

Step 6 - (Continuing and all Graduate level) Request and Accept Your Loans with the Green Application

Complete your application for financial aid. This application can be submitted ONLY ONCE so please ensure accuracy and completeness.

Complete the Georgetown Law Green Application ONLY, if you are a returning JD or incoming or returning Graduate Law (LLM, Exec LLM, MSL/MLT or SJD) student.

BEFORE YOU CONTINUE: If you have placed a security freeze on your credit file, you must lift or remove the freeze at each credit bureau before you continue. Your application will not be processed if you have a security freeze.

Step 7 - Award Notice

Incoming Students - You will receive your tentative financial aid notification via email after completing your Yellow Application starting April 1st.

All Graduate or Continuing Students - Beginning in July we will email completed applicants their award notice confirming their loan selections. You would have already received your tentative award via email after completing your Green Application.

The priority filing dates are:

Summer aid Requests - April 15th
Fall Aid Requests - June 1st (continuing students, try to complete prior to leaving for the summer)

Step 8 - (Incoming JD) Accept your Financial Aid via the Blue Certification Request

Incoming JD students, notify Georgetown Law what financial aid you wish to ACCEPT from your award. You do this through our Blue Certification Request which will be available June 1st. Please complete by July 15th. This application can be submitted ONLY ONCE so please ensure accuracy and completeness.

Law students DO NOT accept their financial aid online, though you may receive communication from Main Campus Georgetown or see in MyAccess it stating online acceptance.
