This application is the process for the 2023-24 academic year (including summer 2023).

If you’re an international student, student loan financing of your education at Georgetown Law is limited to commercial loans. If you have applied and been approved for a loan by a commercial student loan lender, please complete;

  1. Apply for your private loan (after March 15th). Contrary to what your lender may tell you, we ARE NOT notified of your loan. You MUST complete an application for Financial Aid (Step 6) in order for us to initiate a loan on your behalf.
  2. Incoming students –
    • After you are admitted you can retrieve your GU Net ID credential from the Admitted Student Website. Any questions regarding your credentials, please notify the Office of Admissions at lawhotline@georgetown.edu.
    • Once you have your Georgetown Net ID credential you can establish your new Georgetown password through Georgetown’s Password Management System. Any questions regarding your password, please notify the Office of Admissions at lawhotline@georgetown.edu.
  3. Complete your application for financial aid. This application can be submitted ONLY ONCE so please ensure accuracy and completeness. If you would like to be notified when the 2023-2024 application for financial aid becomes available, you can do so by completing the Application Notification form.
    • Complete the Georgetown Law Yellow Application ONLY, if you are an incoming or transfer JD student.
      • Complete the Georgetown Law Blue Certification Application AFTER June 1st, ONLY if you are an incoming or transfer JD student.
    • Complete the Georgetown Law Green Application ONLY, if you are a returning JD or incoming or returning Graduate Law (LLM, Exec LLM, MSL or SJD) student.

Step 1 - Budget

Figure out how much you will need to spend on tuition, books and living expenses (Cost of Attendance) for the upcoming academic year to attend Georgetown Law.

When the linked page opens, select the correct aid year and select the appropriate student budget.

You will request the amount you need in Step 6, below.

Executive LLM and Master's programs have a separate graduate budget.

Step 2 - Loan Types

Step 3 - Loan Documents

You must complete (online) various requirements for your student loans. Complete AFTER March 15th.

Step 4 - Georgetown Law Credentials - Incoming Students

After you are admitted you can retrieve your Georgetown Net ID credential from the Admitted Student Website. Any questions regarding your credentials, please notify the Office of Admissions at lawhotline@georgetown.edu.

Step 5 - Set-Up Your Georgetown Password - Incoming Students

Once you have your Georgetown Net ID credential you can establish your new Georgetown password through Georgetown's Password Management System. Any questions regarding your password, please notify the Office of Admissions at lawhotline@georgetown.edu.

Step 6 - Request and Accept Your Loans with the Yellow or Green Application

Using the amount you determined that you would need in Step 1, above, complete the Georgetown Law Green Application (graduate or continuing students) or Blue Certification Request (incoming students) to request the certification of your student loans you wish to accept.

This application can be submitted ONLY ONCE so please ensure accuracy and completeness.

BEFORE YOU CONTINUE: If you have placed a security freeze on your credit file, you must lift or remove the freeze at each credit bureau before you continue. Your application will not be processed if you have a security freeze.

Step 7 - Award Notice

Incoming Students - You will receive your tentative financial aid notification via email after completing your Yellow Application starting April 1st.

Graduate or Continuing Students - Beginning in July we will email completed applicants their award notice confirming their loan selections. You would have already received your tentative award via email after completing your Green Application.

The priority filing dates are:

Summer 2023 Aid Requests - April 15th
Fall Aid Requests - June 1st (continuing students, try to complete before leaving for the summer)
