Scholarships & Fellowships

Starting this year, Georgetown Law International LL.M. Alumni scholarships are offered to a small number of incoming international students each year who demonstrate a record of high academic and/or professional achievement in transnational legal practice.  These full-tuition scholarships are named in honor of our extensive network of Georgetown Law LL.M. alumni around the world, who are working at the top levels in the private sector, governments, academia, judiciaries and international organizations.  Recipients of this scholarship will receive special introductions to our international Law Alumni Advisory Boards after the scholarship is awarded.

Offered to a small number of incoming students each year who have between 1-5 years of professional legal experience, this scholarship recognizes young lawyers with strong academic and/or professional backgrounds, as well as the potential to make significant contributions to the legal profession in their areas of interest.  These are partial-tuition awards, covering a significant portion of the cost of tuition.

All admitted students are automatically considered for partial tuition scholarships based on the strength of their overall application.  Georgetown Graduate Scholarships are offered in varying amounts and cover partial tuition.

Applicants to the full-time LL.M. in Taxation (on-campus program) are eligible to be considered for full-tuition Graduate Tax Scholarships. Approximately 8 Graduate Tax Scholars will be selected each year, based on their academic and professional achievement related to tax law and their potential to contribute to the field. Both U.S. and foreign-trained applicants are eligible to apply. In addition to receiving a full tuition scholarship, Graduate Tax Scholars participate in networking events and enrichment opportunities during their LL.M. studies. Interested applicants should include an additional 500-word essay on an issue of tax law or policy as an addendum to their LL.M. application.

Each year, approximately five students are selected to participate in our International Arbitration Scholars program.  Scholars receive a generous partial tuition scholarship, in addition to special networking opportunities.  Scholars also enroll in a special Colloquium class where they conduct research and writing on a topic of their choice, under the guidance of Professor Anne Marie Whitesell.  Applicants to the General Studies, International Legal Studies, or International Business & Economic Law LL.M. programs are eligible to apply. Scholars are selected on the basis of their academic achievement as well as professional experience in the area of international arbitration; applicants should have at least two years of relevant full-time work experience.  Interested applicants should include an additional 500-word essay on an issue of arbitration law as an addendum to their LL.M. application. Finalists may be invited for an interview.

Georgetown Law has partnered with Young ICCA to offer one full-tuition scholarship each year.  Selected from among the winners of the International Arbitration Scholarships, the Young ICCA scholar must be a member of Young ICCA and will be chosen based on their academic and professional credentials as well as their anticipated contribution to the development of international arbitration and the goals of Young ICCA.  In addition to their application to the International Arbitration Scholars program, candidates should submit a supplemental statement confirming their Young ICCA membership and indicating their interest in the scholarship. 

Applicants to the National & Global Health Law LL.M. are eligible to apply for Global Health Law Fellowships.  Recipients are selected based on the strength of their academic and professional experience in health law.  To apply, candidates should submit, as an addendum to their LL.M. application, a 500-word essay on a health law issue of interest to them. Global Health Law Fellowships are offered in varying amounts and cover partial tuition. 

Applicants to the LL.M. in National Security Law are eligible to apply for a National Security Law Scholarship.  Two recipients are selected each year based on the strength of their academic and professional experience related to national security.  To apply, candidates should submit, as an addendum to their LL.M. application, a 500-word essay on a national security law issue of interest to them. National Security Law scholarships provide a generous scholarship covering partial tuition. 

In honor of the late Georgetown Law Professor John H.Jackson, two students will be selected to receive half-tuition scholarships based on their participation in the John H. Jackson Moot Court competition and reaching the final rounds of the competition in Geneva.  Candidates should submit a supplemental statement with their application indicating the year(s) of their participation in the competition, their role(s) on their team, and any honors received during the competition.

Georgetown Law offers a 50% LL.M. tuition reduction to foreign-trained applicants who previously completed a semester at the Center for Transnational Legal Studies (CTLS) in London while enrolled in a law degree program at one of Georgetown’s CTLS partner schools.  This offer is available to applicants who enroll in a Georgetown LLM program in the 2026-2027 academic year or within 3 years of completing their law degree program at the CTLS partner school.  This offer is not available to those who completed a semester at CTLS while enrolled in a Georgetown degree program or to those who attended CTLS on an independent basis.

Applicants must meet all admissions criteria for the LLM program, including prior completion of their first law degree.  Applicants follow the standard LLM application process and should be sure to complete the CTLS fee and TOEFL waivers available with the application. Early application is encouraged as the admissions process is rolling.

The D. Tsai Endowed Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to students who earned their first degree in law from a university in Taiwan. Applicants who earned their law degrees in China, Hong Kong, or Macau may also be considered. Up to two students per year will be selected to receive a full-tuition scholarship. Applicants who meet the criteria can apply by submitting a supplemental statement of no more than 500 words with their application, discussing their reasons for choosing Georgetown Law to pursue their LL.M. studies.  Finalists may be invited for an interview.
