LAW JOURNAL CONTRIBUTOR, RISE MENTOR, BAKER

Jennifer CouchJennifer became interested in law as an undergrad, where she was a part of Skadden, Arps Honors Program. Before attending Georgetown, she worked as an immigration paralegal to help foreign artists receive extraordinary ability visas. Jennifer remains engaged in immigration law, though her focus has shifted to business law. To pursue her law degree at Georgetown, Jennifer was awarded the Opportunity Scholarship.

While at Georgetown…

Jennifer is working as an office assistant for Dr. Perez-Caro at the Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI). She is also the Asian Pacific American Law Student Association’s (APALSA) private sector professional chair, on the digital committee team at the Georgetown Journal of International Law (GJIL), and a RISE fellow and mentor. Expanding on her interest in immigration law, in the winter of 2019, Jennifer went with a team of Georgetown Law students to Dilley, Texas, to represent asylees seeking asylum in the United States.

Jennifer spent her 1L summer as a summer associate and 1L LCLD Scholar at Venable LLP. As a summer associate, Jennifer researched various government entities including the SBA and FTC, and wrote about their new policies to partners. Her work product on the Paycheck Protection Program and Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act was later published and credited in a law journal by a partner. Additionally, she created a PowerPoint presentation on social media and political advertising that was presented by partners of the firm in August. At Venable, Jennifer found her passion for transactional practice with a regulatory component.

Although her focus is now antitrust and business law, Jennifer remains engaged in immigration law issues:
