Joe Yu is a 2026 graduate and Member of Cohort 7 of the Business Law Scholars Program. He is currently an Associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP in New York.

Prior to law school, Joe co-founded an Ethereum blockchain startup valued at $200 million with $4 million seed-round and $4 million Series A from a top-tier venture capital firm. Joe formed and managed the engineering team with over 20 engineers in Asia and North America. He directed the design of the core mathematical protocol of Sperax blockchain and the blockchain launch and led the Sperax engineering team to build applications on major blockchains with over 1 million users. Joe also worked as the Blockchain/Web3 Director for Newstyle Media Group in Los Angeles and Beijing.

Joe graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, with a degree in Mathematics of Computation and a minor in Philosophy.

Joe is from Hangzhou (杭州), China and speaks fluent English and Mandarin. Interests include karaoke, traveling, cultural history and philosophy, and soul games like Elden Ring.
