Join Georgetown Defenders and Georgetown Criminal Law Association for a discussion with Exoneree John Bunn. John Bunn was wrongfully convicted of murder and attempted murder in 1991 in Crown Heights, New York. He served 17 years in prison and 10 years on parole before he was finally exonerated. John’s conviction was overturned in 2016 after a hearing, based on the misconduct of disgraced NYPD detective Louis Scarcella and the fact that there wasn’t even probable cause to arrest John in the first place. Yet, John’s charges were not officially dropped until April 2016. He now runs a non-profit called A Voice 4 the Unheard, where he travels around to public schools as well as universities telling his story.
