Georgetown Law is an official Department of Defense Office of Military Commissions observer organization, allowing us to seek to send one observer per session to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to observe the military commission proceedings. Alternatively, or in addition to sending one observer to Guantanamo Bay, we may send one observer to Fort Meade, Maryland to observe the proceeding by secure video.
For those who are selected by DoD as observers based on our nomination, the flight from Andrews Air Force Base and lodging is provided by the government. Travel to Andrews Air Force base (13 miles southeast of Georgetown Law), food, and any other incidentals will be modest out-of-pocket expenses for the observer. Observers will also be responsible for travel to Fort Meade, Maryland.
If you are interested in participating in the program, we will have an information session on Wednesday, August 28th, from 3:30 to 4:30 pm in McDonough 202.
