Scholarly Presentation on the Regulation of Maritime Autonomous Vessels (MAVs) Featuring Professor Saiful Karim
Professor Saiful Karim from Queensland University of Technology School of Law in Brisbane, Australia will give a presentation on the Regulation of Maritime Autonomous Vessels (MAVs) from 3:30 pm to 5 pm on Tuesday, September 17th in McDonough 203.
Professor Karim’s research aims to fill a critical gap in current responses in international law by focusing on the challenges posed by MAVs to international maritime security law. MAVs are increasingly useful for states in peacetime military operations, in response to transnational crime, maritime cybersecurity, and in promoting broader national security goals, but non-state actors may also use them for terrorist and transnational criminal activity.
Related to his research, Professor Karim is a co-editor of a forthcoming book titled: ‘Maritime Autonomous Vehicles and International Law: Maritime Security Perspectives’ that will be published by Routledge later this year.
